since you usually close the other eye (unless you shoot from the shoulder i guess), i don't think it matters if it's the leading eye or not. i use my left eye with still cameras, because it's my leading eye and it "feels better" since i usually stand with my left foot forward, but i use my right eye on most movie cameras because of ergonomics.

this is an offshoot of the still camera post, that ran and ran...
i'm now the proud owner of an old Zeiss 1950s SLR, but i need to get a dioptric (sp?) eye piece fitted to be able to use it properly. since my eyes have very different prescriptions, i need to choose ONE eye to work with using that camera.
so which eye should i choose?
and is this just a question of ergonomics, or is it more important than that?
so i'm curious to know: when you shoot stills or super 8:
1. do you always have the same eye to the viewfinder?
2. if so, which eye is it, and why?
a friend told me a while ago that for every person one eye is the 'leading' eye, and the other just follows. i forget the details, but it made me thing that the leading eye was the one a cinematographer should use. however, the simple test he gave me to work out which was my lead eye didn't produce conclusive results when i did it. so i'm back at square one on that one...
any advice, anecdotes, or extravagant theories to help me get my head around this would be very welcome!
TIA:
peter
